Abstract

This article analyzes the feeling of emptiness experienced by Lady Chatterley in the film adaptation of "Lady Chatterley's Lover" by D.H. Lawrence in 2015. The film depicts Connie Chatterley's dissatisfaction with her marriage to the paralyzed Sir Clifford Chatterley, highlighting her longing for emotional and physical satisfaction. How Sir Clifford Chatterley's upper-class social background and physical limitations contributed to Lady Chatterley's feeling of emptiness. It uses Lacan's theory which is based on the distinction between the conscious self and the unconscious, which contains repressed desires, thoughts, and emotions. The scene in which Lady Chatterley walks in nature with Oliver Mellors can be interpreted as a symbol of Lady Chatterley's quest for hidden sexual freedom and gratification. Using a qualitative method by unraveling the story structure, plot, and characterization to understand how Lady Chatterley's feelings of emptiness are constructed and explored in the film. How Lady Chatterley's feelings of emptiness are portrayed in the movie "Lady Chatterley's Lover" (2015) and what factors contributed to the appearance of these feelings. This research can provide insight into women's experiences in patriarchal societies, including the challenges and obstacles they face in seeking emotional and sexual satisfaction.
